Rip Gerber has been selling stuff since he was 6, when he opened a lemonade stand in his driveway outside of Washington, DC. After receiving a biochemical engineering degree from the University of Virginia, he worked for the Central Intelligence Agency in the Psychological Testing Division (not everyone is cut out to be a spy, someone has to administer those Myers-Briggs tests). He later built a polyester plant for Firestone Tire and Rubber and launched the first online credit card application for American Express. In the nineties Rip went back to school (Harvard, MBA) and headed west to Silicon Valley and served in executive strategy and marketing roles at technology companies, usually as CMO and CSO, including Commtouch (NASDAQ: CTCH, which he took public), Digitas (NASDAQ: DTAS) and Intellisync (NASDAQ: SYNC, which he sold to Nokia). He’s now a board advisor with San Francisco-based pricing optimization company SignalDemand as well as an author. His first book, a technology thriller situated in the Amazon rainforest, achieved internatioanl best-seller status (PHARMA, Random House/Heyne). He also serves as Chief Pricing Officer for this blog.
